WHD

The World Health Day is a global health awareness day celebrated every year on 7 April, under the sponsorship of the World Health Organization (WHO).
The theme of the World Health Day 2017 is Depression: Let’s talk

World Health Day 2017, celebrated on 7 April, aims to mobilize action on depression. This condition affects people of all ages, from all walks of life, in all countries. Depression can lead to such a severity that it impacts people’s ability to carry out even daily routine tasks.

“Depression is not a rare disease. It affects 4-5% people across the globe. In India, it is everywhere. Depression affects not only the patient, but also those close to them,” says Dr Henk Bekedam, WHO representative to India. “The number of people living with depression in India has increased by 18.4% between 2005 and 2015.

WHO is leading a one year global campaign on depression for prevention and treatment of people suffering from depression.
